The AI tools, as it is impacting every sector, are increasingly used in academic research and writing as well, yet their use raises series of important both legal questions and concerns about the academic integrity. When can research data, including copyrighted works and personal data, be processed with AI tools? What requirements arise under copyright law and the GDPR? And last but not least, how can researchers use AI tools and AI generated outputs in legally compliant and academically responsible way?

The talk offers a concise overview of the most pressing legal issues relating to the use of AI in academic research. Main aim is identifying key legal risks and practical challenges for researchers, as well as drawing the framework, where researchers can actually benefit the technology as a tool in legally compliant manner.
