Terms like “reproducibility crisis”, “reproducibility”, “replicability”, “repeatability”, and “reproducible workflows” are frequently used in the academic ecosystem, often in the context of Open Science. In this talk, I will clarify the terminology and explain the underlying issues and deeper origins of current debates. Looking at concrete examples, we will explore the philosophical, methodological, and statistical aspects of reproducibility, as well as the distinction between responsible and irresponsible research practices. Finally, we will discuss the methodological challenges behind reproducibility as well as the Open Science practices that have been developed to overcome them.
